The Love Story
A fireman’s heroic rescue of a blind and deaf golden retriever from a frozen pond connected him to a local journalist. Thats how this love story began. Although Robbie’s efforts were admirable that day, it was not until months later that Maddie came into his life for good. Nonetheless, they believe fate and a golden retriever named Buddy is to thank for finding each other. Today I am lucky enough to share a small part of this local power couple’s fairytale. As I had the honor of capturing moments from their Fort Miles wedding in the Cape Henlopen State Park!
The Venue – Fort Miles Historical Area
The Cape Henlopen State Park holds a special place in Maddie and Robbie’s hearts. It is where they spend every Sunday of Summer enjoying the beach together. Fort Miles Historical Area is the gem of the State Park and is a former World War II military base that was used in the early 1970’s. It has since become a museum as well as a beautiful venue, surrounded by Nature. Also known as the Great Dune Overlook, Fort Miles was able to tie in Maddie and Robbie’s mutual love for history, the State Park, and Maddie’s military background. The State Park is home to the Atlantic Ocean, gorgeous sand dunes, and endless nature trails. The Great Dune Overlook is primarily outdoors which allowed for Maddie and Robbie to go through with their original plans; only minor modifications were needed to ensure their wedding was compliant with COVID-19 protocols.
The Wedding
Their Fort Miles wedding day could not have been more perfect. From the shiny red fire truck to the cute dog. Along with the gorgeous views of the Cape Henlopen State Park, these personal touches made for a stunning backdrop. Hal the Dal (mation), Maddie and Robbie’s beloved adopted dog was more than happy to be the center of their photos. What, did you think I was going to say Buddy the golden retriever made a guest appearance? If only!
